Recumbent exercise bike models vary greatly in both features as well as price.  Spend too little and you may well waste your money.  Spend too much and the benefits you receive may not really be worth the price.  Here are 5 tips for getting a good value at whatever price point you decide to look at…

No Rock And Roll

A stable platform is a must for workouts.  What’s that mean?  Your bike must be heavy enough and constructed properly so as you ride the bike does not rock, sway and roll.  Firstly, a bike that moves around as you pedal does not encourage hard workouts.  Of course, the more you ride and the harder you ride, the better results you get.

Secondly, bikes that move around while you ride tend to begin to develop loose connections and to break pieces.  As joints loosen and parts break, the moving gets worse and it all just cascades as the bike slowly comes apart.

Cheap bikes often do just that, come apart.  Number one for a great bike is solid construction.

The Seat’s The Thing

A main advantage with recumbents is comfort.  Get a bike noted for a comfortable seating position along with a quality seat.  One way to find out about this is to actually spend time on the bike you are considering.  An almost as good method is to check out consumer reviews.  Fortunately, several bike models are reviewed by many owners on the Internet and you can often read dozens of owner reviews and often you can see patterns develop since rider impressions are often similar.

Drive In Quiet

Another real plus to most recumbent is the low noise level.  That results from the magnetic drive on most bikes which is virtually silent.  That quiet opens up many possibilities.  You can watch movies as you pedal or read or even listen to music.  By doing other things as you ride, you can reduce the boredom factor which has stopped many an exercise bike workout program.

Electronic Workouts?

Another plus to better recumbents comes with the computer power built into the machines.  Electronic drives teamed with computer power produces ability to simulate real-world workouts right at home.  The resistance level variations programmable or already programmed in the machines lets you ride much like you would on the road.  Again, boredom fighters keep you in the saddle actually benefiting from owning the machine.

Warranty Means More Than You Think

Electronics is central to the function of most recumbent bikes.  Electronic failures are not usually fixable at home and are only fixable at high cost.  That’s why the warranty with the machine is a major factor with recumbents.  Death of the computer means the machine is not usable, so check out the warranty on these.  It’s key.

Recumbent exercise bike use becomes much more likely if the machine possesses certain qualities.  Often the cost to get a very useful bike is not really all that high.  Get the right features though or you may be wasting all the money you spend.

After all what is the point of losing weight if you end up with metabolism-related problems? Obesity does lead to health problems but so do fad diets. So how does one come across a healthy weight loss programme?

If you are starting a weight loss program it may be helpful for you to know that there are some simple steps you can take to make it more effective. I will share some tips that have been proven by many people to work.

Obesity has become a problem for most of the people these days. All these problems are mainly due to the lifestyle being led by people. The result of people going on a crash diet is that they become sick instead of losing weight. Most of the people are so occupied with their day to day activities that they hardly find time to exercise that makes them very gloomy. They start struggling with their obesity but because of lack of knowledge they fail to decide what can be right for them. Most of the people have simply no idea about how to start and where to start and that is why the situation becomes even more complex. There are so many weight loss programs these days that can help one to lose all the extra weight with least effort.

It is a common notion that many are into that the weight loss programs give no impact at all. Irrespective of the place and time that the client seeks help can be had from some of the weight loss programs that are available 24 7. Vitamin And Mineral Supplements: A good supplement program must have a good multivitamin and mineral combination. People these days are under the misconception that vitamins and minerals make them super charged, loose weight or support muscle growth. These mineral supplements won’t burn those fats, increase energy or improve athletic performance. Most of our diets today rely on enriched, refined and heavily processed foods and because of our increased stress levels, missed meals and strenuous exercises there may be lesser intake of the essential nutrients. There is therefore a role for vitamin and mineral supplements. These vitamin and mineral supplements will act as a back up against deficiencies so that the body will be able to function at its optimal level.

Fat-Burners: There is no magic pill that will burn away all the fat. Weight loss is a major effect of negative energy balance, that is, consuming less and burning more calories. Magic pills aren’t healthy fat loss options because they only address the symptom and not the cause of obesity like sedentary lifestyle or poor nutrition. However these thermogenic agents are getting a lot of reviews from consumers and experts these days. These substances act by raising the body’s core temperature and metabolic rate.

Meal Replacement Options: Taking five to six small meals in a day is a good way to speed the body’s metabolic activity. But with the current fast paced and hectic lifestyle, most people find it hard to eat that often. A busy schedule makes it hard for people to eat balanced meals and this is where meal replacement options come in. Meal replacement options usually have high protein content and are low in calorie and fats.

A Schwinn 231 Exercise Bike is the machine many people choose for personal use.  Now it’s one of Schwinn’s more expensive bikes, but then Schwinn bikes are mostly mid-range so it’s still not very expensive.  This recumbent bike is rugged and it’s loaded with features for the price, plus it’s from Schwinn.  Schwinn is known for value.  Here’s the story…

It’s A Recumbent.

The recumbent bike is a fairly new type of design.  Many people choose them over an upright for several reasons.  One of the main reasons is comfort.  See you’re reclining when you ride, so your weight is not bearing down on two small areas on your pelvic bones.  That’s why it’s more comfortable than an upright.  Another recumbent feature that attracts many is the ease of getting on and off.  It’s just a simple step through frame, so mounting is easy for most anyone even if you have an injury or disability.  This bike is noted for a comfortable seat.  It’s wide, stable and includes lumbar back support.  But there’s more…

It’s Rugged.

A bike that’s too light will rock and roll as you pedal.  What happens as the bike moves around is that it starts to come apart and loosen up.  All that rocking and swaying will literally tear the machine apart in short order.  That’s why a heavy, rugged bike will last much longer.  It’s not tearing itself up as you ride.  It’s more pleasant to pedal on a solid bike too, less swaying and more pedaling.  Now this bike isn’t nearly as heavy as a commercial gym type bike, but it’s well built and quite stable.  The customer reviews highlight those features.  So it’s quite stable, but is it fun to ride?

The Electronics Makes It Fun To Use

Like many other bikes, this one uses a magnetic system to produce the resistance.  What’s that do for you?  Well you can adjust the resistance to vary the pedal effort.  Now this type of drive is very smooth, but it’s also quiet.  It’s almost silent in fact.  So that way you can watch videos or listen to music while you ride.  That’s one way to fight boredom.  The other part of the electronics system is the programmable workouts.  You get 16 resistance levels you can dial in.  Then you get 10 workout programs that are already built in.  That’s what you need to fight boredom, lots of variation.

Schwinn Is Known For Value

But all the design features and options are no good if the thing won’t work.  You know it’s nice to have a guarantee, which you get of course.  But what you really want is a machine where you don’t need the guarantee.  You know, you just want something that works.  You never know, but these machines don’t seem to get returned very often.  At least that’s what the consumer reviews indicate.  Now my personal bike isn’t a model 231, but it is a Schwinn.  I’ve been riding the same bike for almost twenty years and it still works fine. 

The Schwinn 231 Exercise Bike isn’t as heavy as a commercial gym bike.  That makes it easier to move, but a little less stable.  This is a value packed exercise bike for home use.  It has lots of electronics so you can fight the number one problem with exercise bikes… boredom.

The prostate gland sits just below the bladder and in front of the rectum, partially surrounding the urethra, which carries urine from the bladder out of the body. It is responsible for the production of a clear liquid which makes up part of the seminal fluid used to carry and protect the male sperm during intercourse.

As you grow older, the prostate grows larger and this can lead to health issues. However, having a prostate problem does not necessarily raise your chance of contracting prostate cancer.

For men under 50, the main problem is likely to be a form of Prostatitis, where the prostate may be inflamed or irritated, resulting in frequency or a burning sensation when you urinate.

This can often be a bacterial infection which comes on suddenly and gives you a fever, chills or lower back pain. See your doctor as soon as possible so he can run a test and prescribe antibiotics.

In certain cases, this can become a chronic infection with the bacteria returning regularly. This is also known as Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS). Occurring mostly in young to middle-aged men, it causes pain in the lower back, between the legs, or at the entrance to the urethra, resulting in painful ejaculation and the need to urinate frequently. Sometimes antibiotics can help, but the condition is very hard to treat. Some people believe that it may be triggered by a Candida infection elsewhere in the body and that antibiotics are actually doing more harm than good.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, an enlargement of the prostate (also known as BPH), is the most common problem for men over 50. This is a growth of non-cancerous cells within the transition section of the prostate gland. Because it is enlarged, it squeezes the urethra causing a variety of urination-related symptoms.

You may feel that you have to keep getting up in the night to urinate, or you may have trouble going at all – despite the fact that you had to hurry to the toilet. There are a variety of symptoms: a weak flow of urine or only a small amount being produced each time you go, or the sensation that you still need to go – although you’ve only just been, or post-wee dribbling/leaking. In some cases, a little blood may be present in the urine. You should contact a doctor immediately should you be unable to urinate at all.

It is very important that you do not ignore these symptoms or self-diagnose. A doctor will need to check the size and condition of the prostate by inserting a gloved finger into the rectum.

Despite the fact that this is an exploration which men fear, it is imperative to obtain the correct diagnosis as prostate cancer is rarely fatal if caught early enough.

A blood test will be ordered to check for prostate-specific antigens (PSA). If these are high, it may be a sign of prostate cancer, but the test is not perfect so many men with a high reading do not necessarily have prostate cancer.

To get a proper view of your prostate, the doctor may order a pyleogram. Dye will be injected into a vein, which will show up on the x-ray of your urinary tract when it passes from your blood into your urine.

Alternatively, a rectal sonogram will utilise a probe inserted into the rectum to bounce sound waves off your prostate.

A cystoscopy can also assess the condition of the prostate internally. This uses a cystoscope, which is a thin microscope inserted into the bladder via the urethra.

If your symptoms don’t bother you too much, you may choose to watch and wait rather than take pills every day or have surgery. But you should have regular checkups to make sure your condition isn’t getting worse.

These may include medications to relax the muscles near the prostate to ease the symptoms and help shrink it, various non-surgical techniques, where small parts of the prostate can be removed via the urethra with, microwaves or lasers, or one of the many types of actual surgery to correct the problem.

Although instances of prostate cancer are fairly common, the disease does not often cause death. Treatments are most effective when the disease is in its early stages and has not had a chance to spread elsewhere. If you become aware of any of the symptoms mentioned above, visit your doctor so that he can rule out cancer as the more advanced symptoms of tiredness, pain in the back, hips and thighs arrive when the cancer has spread and gone beyond the state at which it can be cured.

Avoiding high-fat food and having a diet rich in fruit and vegetables is key to preventing prostate cancer.
